How to choose the right workwear for your industry and climate.

Choosing the right workwear for your job is not only a matter of comfort, but also of safety and performance. Different types of workwear are designed to suit different work environments and weather conditions, and they can make a big difference in how you feel and perform at work. In this blog post, we will guide you through the different types of workwear available, such as hi-vis, flame-resistant, waterproof, etc., and how they suit different industries and climates. We will also showcase some of our products and explain their features and benefits.

Hi-Vis Workwear

Hi-vis workwear is workwear that has high-visibility colours or reflective elements, such as stripes, tapes, or logos. Hi-vis workwear is essential for workers who work in low-light or dark conditions, such as construction, mining, roadwork, or emergency services. Hi-vis workwear helps workers to be seen by others, especially by drivers or machinery operators, and thus reduces the risk of accidents or injuries.

Hi-vis workwear comes in different classes, depending on the level of visibility required. Class 1 is the lowest level, suitable for workers who are well separated from traffic or machinery, such as parking attendants or warehouse workers. Class 2 is the intermediate level, suitable for workers who are exposed to traffic or machinery at speeds below 50 km/h, such as road maintenance workers or delivery drivers. Class 3 is the highest level, suitable for workers who are exposed to traffic or machinery at speeds above 50 km/h, such as highway workers or emergency responders.

At GoWear, we have a wide range of hi-vis workwear products, such as vests, shirts, jackets, pants, and hats. All our hi-vis products meet the Australian Standards for high-visibility clothing (AS/NZS 4602.1:2011). Some of our products also have additional features, such as sun protection (UPF 50+), moisture wicking (to keep you dry and cool), or anti-microbial (to prevent odour and bacteria). Here are some examples of our hi-vis products:

  • [Hi Vis (D+N) Long Sleeve Polo]: This polo shirt has a classic fit and a contrast collar with two-button placket. It has a hi-vis yellow colour with reflective tape on the body and sleeves. It is made of 100% polyester micromesh fabric that is breathable and comfortable. It also has a UPF rating of 50+ to protect you from the sun.
  • [Hi Vis (D+N) W/Resist Three Layer Softshell Jacket]: This jacket has a modern fit and a full zip front with internal storm flap. It has a hi-vis orange colour with reflective tape on the body, and sleeves. Its three-layer softshell construction offers wind resistance, water repellency, and breathability, keeping you comfortable in various weather conditions. Whether it's rain, wind, or snow, this jacket has got you covered.
  • [Hi Vis (D+N) Bio Motion Pant]: This pant has a regular fit and an elasticated waist with internal drawcord. It has a hi-vis yellow/navy colour with reflective tape on the lower leg. It is made of 100% cotton drill fabric that is sturdy and comfortable. It also has reinforced knee patches for extra protection and durability.

Flame-Resistant Workwear

Flame-resistant workwear is workwear that can resist ignition or self-extinguish when exposed to fire or heat sources. Flame-resistant workwear is vital for workers who work in environments where there is a risk of fire or explosion, such as oil and gas, welding, electrical, or firefighting. Flame-resistant workwear helps workers to prevent or reduce burn injuries in case of an accident.

Flame-resistant workwear comes in different ratings, depending on the level of protection required. The ratings are based on the amount of heat energy that the fabric can withstand before breaking open or igniting (measured in calories per square centimetre). The higher the rating, the more protection the fabric provides. For example, HRC 1 is the lowest rating, suitable for workers who are exposed to heat energy below 4 cal/cm2, such as electricians or mechanics. HRC 4 is the highest rating, suitable for workers who are exposed to heat energy above 40 cal/cm2, such as firefighters or blast furnace workers.

Waterproof Workwear

Waterproof workwear is workwear that can prevent water or moisture from penetrating the fabric or seams. Waterproof workwear is essential for workers who work in wet or rainy conditions, such as fishing, farming, or plumbing. Waterproof workwear helps workers to stay dry and comfortable at work.

Waterproof workwear comes in different levels, depending on the degree of water resistance required. The levels are based on the amount of water pressure that the fabric can withstand before leaking (measured in millimetres of water column). The higher the level, the more water-resistant the fabric is. For example, 1,500 mm is the lowest level, suitable for workers who are exposed to light rain or drizzle, such as gardeners or cyclists. 10,000 mm is the highest level, suitable for workers who are exposed to heavy rain or snow, such as sailors or skiers.

At GoWear, we have a variety of waterproof workwear products, such as jackets, pants, overalls, and boots. All our waterproof products have a water-resistant rating that indicates how well they can resist water penetration. Some of our products also have additional features, such as breathability (to allow air circulation and prevent sweating), or windproof (to block cold air and wind). Here are some examples of our waterproof products:

  • [Waterproof Jacket]: This jacket has a modern fit and a full zip front with storm flap. It has a black colour with reflective piping on the front and back. It is made of 100% polyester pongee fabric with a PU coating that is waterproof and durable. • [Waterproof Pant]: This pant has a regular fit and an elasticated waist with internal drawcord. It has a black colour with reflective piping on the lower leg. It is made of 100% polyester pongee fabric with a PU coating that is waterproof and durable.
